Florida Notary Application Checklist

The only difference between the new and the renew commission application process is, if you have already been commissioned through the State of Florida, you would be a renewing commission and new notaries are required to take a state approved education course.

Troy Fain notaries who use our new website to complete the state of Florida notary application will have their application saved in their profile—when renewing, they will only need to review and update the information on the application and purchase any new products and insurance they need.

Since, you only apply every four years to become a notary public; you can get a tad rusty on the procedure. No worries, we understand. We have compiled a checklist for you to be able to return each time you renew, to ensure you have completed the process in its entirety.


Pick a Florida Notary Package.

You have the option of two Troy Fain notary packages: Regular Notary Package and the Premier Notary Package. Both can be edited to your liking—you can add and delete any part of the initial package, and add additional products. Our Regular package includes only items REQUIRED by the State of Florida, while our Premier package is what we recommend for Florida notaries.

Complete your notary public application.

You can either request a paper application by calling us, print Florida notary application on our website, or complete it online.

If you are a new notary, please click “Become a Notary,” and if you are a renewing notary please click “Renew Commission.” Both are located on the left of the main menu bar of the website.

If you complete the application through the website, you will have to be logged into your profile to continue.


Review your Florida notary order.

When you are completing the application process online, you will be prompted to review your order before confirming it. Even if you are not ordering through our website, please take a minute to review your order before you mail us your information.

If you completed the application online, please print and then review it. Please ensure your name is correct. The name you put on your application will be the name used on your commission stamp. Be sure to sign the notary application and the notary bond.

Don’t forget to check a preferred mailing address—so we send your receipt and any updates to the right address.


Renewing Notaries last step is to mail your application and notary bond to us.

Mail your application and your order information to P.O. Box 5077 Tallahassee, FL 32314.


New Florida Notaries – Complete the online education course then mail your application, bond, & certificate.

Florida requires all new notary public applicants to complete an education course.

The time it takes to complete varies, but typically it can be completed within three hours.

Once you have finished the course, you will be issued an education certificate. You must print the certificate and return it to us with your application to finish processing. You can mail the certificate and signed application and notary bond to P.O. Box 5077 Tallahassee, FL 32314, or email it to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Stay up-to-date with your order on you profile.

Your online profile provides all of the reasons why your order has not finished processing yet, such as a missing education certificate. It also alerts you when your application has been sent to state and when your order has shipped.  Once logged in to Troy Fain Notary website, visit My Account, Order History to check the status of your order.
